The Frank Zeidler Center for Public Discussion is a nonprofit entity that seeks to provide opportunities for all citizens to engage in healthy public conversations that contribute to the upbuilding of a community.
The Frank Zeidler Center for Public Discussion serves the Milwaukee community by training group facilitators, sponsoring public events, facilitating discussions within and among groups and by encouraging mutual support of the many groups in the Milwaukee area who are committed to strengthening the community through respectful interaction.
PURPOSE OF THE FRANK ZEIDLER CENTER FOR PUBLIC DISCUSSION
We believe that our work can bring people together to increase understanding, perhaps lead to a more healthy exchange of ideas and changes in behavior that will improve the lives of those who live here in our community.
We believe:
The current social atmosphere is one of division and mutual distrust. Groups in society seem increasingly polarized.
Avenues for conducting public discussion are either unknown to the public or not satisfying in clarifying community needs and building cooperation. Local discussion - trademark of an open and democratic society - rarely take place.
That by supporting all efforts to improve community discussion of public issues, more groups will collaborate. Producing a base of informed and involved citizens will work to improve the existing climate of alienation and blame.
Trained facilitators can provide ways to open discussion on issues, enabling citizens to discuss issues of the common good in fresh ways.
