Utilize the power of our communities in order to build a better Milwaukee for all citizens.
Part I: November 2, 2011, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church Creating Abundance Together
John McKnight and Peter Block, authors of "The Abundant Community: Awakening the Power of Families and Neighborhoods," along with Walter Brueggemann, renowned scripture scholar and author of "Journey to the Common Good," will teach us how associations, institutions and citizens can create relationships that allow us to share our gifts and create a better community. This process will allow us to move from a narrative of scarcity to one of abundance.
Conversation about challenges in our neighborhood, city, state or country often start from what we do not have, what we lack and what we need. The Cardinal Stritch University Leadership Center and Marquette University College of Professional Studies invite you to a different kind of conversation. Join us for a three-part event as we learn what it means to utilize the power of our communities in order to build a better Milwaukee for all citizens.

Participants will build upon and expand their facilitation skills, allowing them to more effectively create conversations that foster mutual understanding between groups and individuals.
Discuss:
the dynamics of polarization and conflict, and the ways that strong emotion affects our ability to communicate.
the ways of speaking, listening, and asking questions that open up conversation and relationships.
the difference between a speaker's intent and the impact on the listener.
Hurry! Registrations are limited. Contact us if you have questions regarding the workshop.
How many conversations on controversial subjects have you been in that end in hard feelings with little progress toward finding common ground?
Does your group (club, church, business) have difficult issues to discuss, but don't know how to get started?
Would you benefit from learning how to lead group discussions about tough subjects?
The Frank Zeidler Center for Public Discussion offers a series of workshops that prepare individuals to facilitate constructive conversations with the club, church, business or community group.
During the Crossing Barriers in Public Discussion workshops, you will experience and learn a discussion method using participatory learning and leading. You can apply the tools you acquire in varied situations including family discussions, neighborhood issues, community dialogue, congregation planning, and peer work relationships.
